The Chicago School Staff Social Network Questionnaire Longitudinal Study is part of the RETA Distributed Leadership for Middle School Mathematics Education: Content Area Leadership Expertise in Practice Study. The goal of the overarching project was to create measures which identified leadership in middle school math education. The Chicago Study surveyed staff at 22 schools in the winter of 2005 through the spring of 2006, using the School Staff Social Network Questionnaire. The survey was administered again in May/June 2007 to a group of 19 schools, and it was administered a third time in June 2008 to 12 schools.
For the initial (2005-2006) survey a purposeful sample of 23 schools were selected to take part in the study; one school was later dropped from analyses due to issues with question structure. The same sample of 23 schools was used for the 2007 survey; four schools declined to participate. The 2008 survey included only those schools with response rates of at least 70 percent in the 2007 survey.
